CANON

character blurb: A woman of Moab whom Naomi's son, Mahlon, married, but died before she could conceive. Naomi had heard that the Lord had fed Israel once more and sought to return to her homeland, telling Ruth and her other daughter-in-law that they were free to return to their families. Orpah decided to return to her Moab ways, but Ruth begged Naomi to follow her to Israel, and the two women travelled the way together. In Bethlehem, they moved back into Naomi's husband's house and lived there, but they could not suffice or themselves, so Naomi told Ruth to go glean the fields for corn, which she did. This was how she met Boaz, a near kinsman to Naomi's husband, and he took a liking to her and helped her. Naomi gave Ruth a way that they may have the man accept them into his family and Ruth as his wife and Ruth did all she was told and Boaz in turn redeemed her and Naomi together, and when Ruth bore his child people said, this is the child of Naomi and the three lived together as family.
